I'm sorry to say that I'm leaving Senegal and going back home tomorrow, for medical reasons. Nothing really bad, and I'll be fine.

About This Site

Hi. I'm Bill Foote, and this is a blog for my Peace Corps service in Senegal. I'm scheduled to be there from September 2019 through December 2022, with the possibility for extending for a year after that.

Senegal is on the coast of West Africa. The capital is Dakar, it's south of Mauritania, west of Mali, north of Guinea and Guinea-Bissau, and it surrounds The Gambia on three sides:

Here's the Wikipedia Article about Senegal, and the Peace Corps Senegal page. Senegal is a stable democracy and a developing country. French is the national language, and different regions have different local languages.

If you'd like to get a notification when I post, you can sign up for e-mail notifications, or if you prefer, get a notification via Facebook. I won't regularly re-post to my timeline, so if you know me through facebook, please do sign up to the notifications here. Its a page on “Facebook Pages,” which lets me automate the post generation.

Other Blogs

You can see my other blogs at my Blogs Page, including my Peace Corps Burkina Faso Blog from 2017.

Colophon

To generate this website, I'm using some sofware I wrote called “Corpsblog.” Partly, I did this because I can, and I enjoy writing sofware. Another reason is that I was able to set things up for living in Africa with limited internet connectivity. It's designed so I can get the blog all ready for publication with no internet connection, and then when I'm in an internet cafe, type one command and have everything updated all at once. The generated website is just a bunch of files (a “static site”) that I host on Github, along with my other websites.
