Today's my last day in the Peace Corps, before I'm medically seperated (i.e. fired). Some thoughts on Burkina Faso, ZPG, development and the Peace Corps. Finally, a word or two about my medical state and prognosis.

About pc.jovial.com/burkina

Hi. I'm Bill Foote, and this is the blog for my Peace Corps service in Burkina Faso. I'm scheduled to be there from June 2017 through August 2019, with the possibility of extending for a year after that.

Burkina Faso is a landlocked country in West Africa. The capital is Ouagadougou. It's north of Côte d'Ivoire, Ghana, Togo and Benin, west of Niger, and south of Mali:

Here's the Wikipedia Article about Burkina Faso, and the Peace Corps Burkina Faso page. Burkina Faso is known for its tolerant and welcoming people, but it's also one of the poorest places on Earth. French is the national language, and different regions have different local languages.

I promise not to post too much – no more than once a week, and it'll probably be more like once a month, on average. If you'd like to get an e-mail notification when I write something, you can click on the “Subscribe” button, or click here. I'm using MailChimp for the mailing list. The GitHub link (the one that looks like cat) is a computer software thing: It's where I keep some open-source software I've written. This includes the code used to generate this blog.

Other Blogs

You can see my other blogs at my Blogs Page, including my Peace Corps Senegal Blog.

Colophon

To generate this website, I'm using some sofware I wrote called “Corpsblog.” Partly, I did this because I can, and I enjoy writing sofware. Another reason is that I was able to set things up so I can get the blog all ready for publication with no internet connection, and then when I'm in an internet cafe, type one command and have everything updated all at once. I figure I won't have a steady internet connection in Burkina Faso. The generated website is just a bunch of files (a “static site”) that I host on Github, along with my other websites.
